Nobody wants to have a bad day. But do you make a conscious effort to have a good day? Most of us wake up and let the day simply take its course. With a few easy steps, you can turn an ordinary day into an extraordinary experience.
It all starts with breakfast. Being hangry is real! The quickest way to agitation and frustration is an empty stomach. So make sure to have something to eat. It doesn’t have to be big. A bagel, some yogurt or fruit will do the trick. It’s especially important if you like to start the day with a caffeine fix. Having something to eat will help get your day headed in the right direction. Similarly, a good routine will impact your attitude as you prepare for the day. Leaving yourself a few extra minutes to read the paper, catch the news or jam out to your favorite beat encourages relaxation and gives you time to organize your thoughts and emotions.
Now that your day is off to a great start, find little ways to add a smile throughout your daily routine. One great idea is leaving notes. Sticky notes are a favorite, but any piece of scrap paper and a fluorescent Sharpie will do the trick. Leave quotes or inspirational phrases for yourself and sweet nothings for the special someone in your life. For an extra special treat, create a unique card to send to your loved one or even to yourself! Positive words are a great form of affirmation and keep your thoughts focused on what really matters.
Notice – and relish – the small moments. If you get to drive to work along the foothills, take an extra second to actually look at the snowy peaks and breathe in that mountain air. If it’s sunny, take a minute to sneak outside. Or if you’re more of an indoor person, make sure your space reflects you. Take time to do something each day that makes you happy. For example, sneak a peak at some funny videos or snuggle with your four-legged best friend. Whatever you do, always remember to count your blessings.
Because your attitude really can determine how your day goes.
